An ambitious mobile shooter

Modern Combat 5: Blackout, developed by Gameloft Bucharest, is the fifth installment in the Modern Combat series. Originally released in 2014 for mobile devices, it was later ported to other platforms. The game aims to deliver a console-like first-person shooter experience on mobile devices, featuring both single-player and multiplayer modes.

Modern Combat 5: Blackout delivers a solid first-person shooter experience, offering a range of classes, multiplayer modes, and visually appealing environments. There’s also a single-player campaign for playeres to enjoy, plunging players into multiple locations such as Tokyo and Venice.

Console level shooter on mobile

Modern Combat 5: Blackout offers a variety of soldier classes, each with unique perks and weapons, allowing players to tailor their playstyle. The single-player campaign consists of short, action-packed missions set in diverse locations like Tokyo and Venice. These missions are designed for quick play sessions, aligning with the mobile gaming experience. However, the campaign's narrative is considered weak, serving more as a backdrop for the action than a compelling story.

Multiplayer modes include Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Battle Royale, among others. The game introduces a squad system and private chat, enhancing the social aspect of gameplay. The narrative follows Phoenix, an ex-military operative uncovering a global conspiracy. While the premise has potential, the story is often seen as generic and uninspired. Character development is minimal, and the plot serves primarily as a vehicle for the game's action sequences.

Modern Combat 5 boasts impressive visuals for a mobile game, with detailed environments and effects like underwater views and dynamic weather. The game's sound design is competent, featuring appropriate music and sound effects that complement the action. Voice acting, however, has been criticized for its lack of depth and emotion. Moreover, when compared to other games on PCs and console the game can be lacking in quality

Mobile shooter with high ambitions and mixed results

Modern Combat 5: Blackout successfully brings a console-style FPS to mobile platforms, offering solid visuals, various multiplayer modes, and fast-paced action. While it excels in gameplay variety and graphical presentation, it falls short in story depth and character development. It's an enjoyable pick for mobile shooter fans, though it doesn’t fully match the quality of PC or console counterparts, it remains a fun FPS game for mobile.
